Councillor Matt Mahoney was born and raised in Mississauga. He is a dedicated advocate for the Ward 8 community, bringing with him a lifetime of local insight and a strong foundation in service. From an early age, Matt was immersed in a culture of community engagement and instilled with the values of commitment and hard work that are vital to effectively representing the diverse interests of our city.
Having first been elected as Ward 8 Councillor in 2014, Matt is now in his third term, a testament to the trust and confidence residents have placed in him. Before his public service, Matt accrued over two decades of experience in the private sector, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of business and community dynamics.
As an elected official, Councillor Mahoney is deeply involved in various committees and boards at the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel. He has been instrumental in driving the Climate Change Action Plan forward as the Chair of the City of Mississauga's Environmental Action Committee for the past nine years. Furthermore, his commitment and passion extends to conservation efforts, serving as a board member for the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and the Credit Valley Conservation Authority (CVC), including a recent tenure as Vice Chair of the CVC. Councillor Mahoney’s dedication to community safety has seen him selected to serve on the Peel Police Services Board.
Councillor Mahoney remains actively engaged in Ward 8 events outside his official duties, underscoring his accessibility and commitment to his constituents. A skilled communicator, he tirelessly advocates for the needs of residents, families, and local businesses, ensuring their voices are heard on matters of importance within Ward 8 and more broadly across the City of Mississauga.
Councillor Mahoney resides in Ward 8 with his wife Karen, an Elementary School Teacher in Mississauga, and their children, Jack and Madison. Together, they take pride in contributing to and enhancing their community and their city.
